Ripley Independence Day 2012 : Ripley, West Virginia! Home of the "largest small town Independence Day Celebration in the Nation!" In the wake of terrible storms just the week before that destroyed property and left many of the state's residents without electricity for days, Ripley moved ahead with its annual recognition of our Country's birthday. From a walk/run to the Parade to Concerts and ending with a terrific fireworks presentation....on the 4th of July, the place to be is Ripley! Veterans' Day Parade in Ripley, WV 2011 : With over 60 units lined up in position, the 2nd Annual Ripley Veterans' Day Parade kicked off just before 10:00 am. The Parade Marshals were the Veterans of the Korean War, and rode in style in a series of antique and classic cars. Joining the Korean War Vets were many of last year's honorees, the World War II Vets of Jackson County. Following the Parade, Veterans, guests, speakers and the public gathered at the Jackson County Courthouse for the annual Veterans Memorial Service. A wreath was set among the markers and flags, and the recognition included a remembrance of our nation's POWs and MIAs. Following the Courthouse ceremony, the Ripley Wal-Mart held a recognition of Veterans' Day. The Ripley High School Show Choir performed several songs, and American Flags were presented to several of the Veterans present, along with a special one to Ripley Mayor Carolyn Rader. Rounding out the special events of 11-11-11 was the opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting for the new Jackson County Armory, located in nearby Millwood, WV. Several hundrend people attended, along with representatives from the Governor and both U.S. Senators. The Ripley High School Show Choir also performed, along with the "Rave Review" Chorus from Ravenswood High School. In addition, the 249th Army Band of the Army Reserve and National Guard performed, and a special dedication plaque with the image of General (Retired) Tackett. Ripley Veterans Day Parade and More 2010 : Ripley, West Virginia hosted its first Veterans Day Parade. Leading over 50 units down Church Street were the Parade Marshals, the Veterans of World War II. Following the Parade, a Veterans Memorial Service was held at the Courthouse lawn, and shortly afterward, another Veterans recognition was held at the Wal-Mart. This Photo Gallery now has all 195 photos from the Veterans Day events. In addition to these photos, I am also producing a Slideshow Video on DVD, with over 100 photos from this Gallery.
