Sissonville VFD New Firehouse
26 months after an electrical fire destroyed the main Sissonville Volunteer Fire Departments fire station, the new Station 26 Firehouse opened for business on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Nearly one hundred guests from the community joined the firefighters as the Kanawha County dispatcher announced the new Station 26 as operational at 10:00 am. The new station is named the Thomas K. Johnson Fire Station, after the former Chief and charter member of the VFD.
The new station was built with donations, government funds and loans totaling over one million dollars. In addition to the Fire Station, three new trucks/apparatus have been purchased to replace vehicles which were also destroyed in the 2010 fire. New safety equipment for the firefighters also had to be replaced, which costs approximately $3200 per person. The Sissonville VFD has 32 Members at this time, and is led by Chief Tim Gooch. The Department also sponsors various training programs, including the annual Sissonville Fire and Rescue School.
