WV AFL-CIO "Workers Memorial Day 2013"
On April 28 of each year, a Memorial is held to remember the men and women who went to work and didn't come home. In West Virginia, there were 22 workers who died last year, from reasons related to their jobs. The West Virginia AFL-CIO gathered union members, families and friends together at Willow Island, WV, to remember these individuals. Willow Island was selected because of the tragedy that occured 35 years ago this year, during which 51 construction workers were killed when their scaffolding collapsed during the buidling of the cooling tower at the power plant. The names of all these 73 workers were read, so that they will not be forgotten.
