Veterans' Day Parade in Ripley 2012
On Monday, November 12, 2012, the City of Ripley celebrated its patriotism with their third annual Veterans' Day Parade. With over 80 units in the Parade, led by 75 Vietnam-era veterans as the Parade Marshalls, the citizens of Ripley and Jackson County welcomed and honored all Veterans. After the Opening Ceremony with Mayor Carolyn Rader, where several other Veterans in the crowd were recognized by name, the Parade got off to a tremendous start with a fly-over by mechanical veteran of Vietnam, a "Huey" helicopter!
The Parade ended at the Jackson County Courthouse, where the honored Vietnam Veterans were seated for the County's Memorial Service. Representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corp League shared with those in attendance as all Veterans were remembered, including MIAs and POWs. As the wind blew the leaves and forced the flags to stand out straight, a rifle salute ended the service, and many people walked down the street where the "Huey" had been set down for visitors.
Later in the afternoon, the Ripley Wal-Mart held its Special Recognition for Veterans in the store, under the eyes of their Wall of Heroes. Pat Crockett welcomed all the Veterans and visitors, and along with the Ripley High Choir and others, thanked the Veterans for their achievements and sacrifices. After several songs and speakers, the program ended with the playing of "Taps."
